Ignite Portland is teaming up with the awesome, generous folks at 30 Hour Day again, to do some good in the community along with our burning ideas and fun. Here’s Rick Turoczy to tell you all about it:
Ignite Portland has always been about community. That’s why giving back to the community is so important to us. Last Ignite, the folks at Small Society held a toy and food drive for 30 Hour Day, a Web-based livestreaming telethon designed to raise money and materials for local charities and to increase visibility for charities worldwide. The result of that effort? You managed to help gather a barrel full of food and a bunch of toys for needy families–just by attending Ignite.
The effort was so successful, we wanted to do it again. And as luck would have it, there’s also another 30 Hour Day that needs help. So we’re joining forces again. To help the community.
Simply bring some nonperishable food to Ignite. Drop it off at the 30 Hour Day table and they’ll make sure it gets to the right people. You’ll get some great enetertainment. And some local families will get some much needed food. What could be better than that?
Put something on your calendar or set a reminder, so you don’t forget as you head out the door to the Bagdad on March 3. And thanks in advance for your generosity!
After 75 idea submissions, and long, hard toil to narrow the field down to the 20 talks we can fit on stage, we’re proud to present you with the 20 amazing talks that will be burning your mind at Ignite Portland 8 on March 3:
We want to extend a big thanks to all of you who took the risk of sharing your burning talk ideas with us, especially to those of you whose talk idea didn’t make it this time. Don’t be discouraged! Competition is fierce, and time is short. We’d love it if you submit your talk idea next time!
We hope you’re as excited as we are about the lineup - it’s going to be a great night!
Wow. That “last minute effect” is really something. We’ve received 75 great talk ideas for Ignite Portland 8. Now we have to whittle it down to the 20 or so that will be appearing on stage. A daunting task. But you can help - have a look at the proposals, and leave a comment on the ones that you’d really like to see. Comments are private, insomuch as only the event organizers can see them (not the general Internet public), and we definitely weigh community feedback as we decide which talks to select.
The organizers will be meeting this week to decide which talks will make the cut, and if you submitted a talk idea, you should get an email notification of your status, one way or the other, by the weekend. We’ll announce the talk lineup publicly here on Monday February 8, 2010.
Thanks again for coming through with all these great talk ideas - IP8 is going to be awesome! (as if that was ever in doubt
